DAY 1 – Fly to Colombo Fly direct from Heathrow to Colombo with Sri Lankan Airlines.
DAY 2 – Anamaduwa On arrival transfer to the Mudhouse Eco Lodge, blessed with abundant birdlife, wildlife and natural beauty.
DAY 3 – Anamaduwa Morning mangrove and lagoon boat trip. Afternoon at leisure to explore the rural villages by bicycle or to relax by the lake.
Yala National Park
DAY 4 – Wilpattu National Park Drive to Wilpattu - home to a dazzling array of elephants, sloth bears, leopards and water buffalo. Mid afternoon game drive. Overnight in a private luxury tent at the Mahoora Safari Camp located inside Wilpattu National Park.
Whale, Galle Elephants
DAY 5 – Habarana Morning game drive before departing to Habarana for 2 nights at the Cinnamon Lodge.
DAY 6 – Habarana Morning visit to the imposing Sigiriya rock fortress. Afternoon Jeep safari in the Minneriya Wildlife Sanctuary home to elephant, buffalo and 160 species of birds.
DAY 7 – Kandy Morning light trek around the villages of Habarana before departing to Kandy for 2 nights at the Chaaya Citadel Hotel. Afternoon tour of Kandy including the botanical gardens and Temple of the Tooth. Optional Kandyan dance evening performance.
DAY 8 – Nuwara Eliya
Spectacular train ride to Nuwara Eliya through the prime tea growing area. Visit to a tea plantation to see all elements of its production.
SRI LANKAN WILDLIFE
The range and scope of Sri Lanka’s wildlife is truly remarkable. Some 12% of the island has been designated for wildlife protection and its parks and sanctuaries provide a rich refuge for blue whales and endangered turtles, fl ocks of fl amingos and great herds of elephants, providing some truly exceptional wildlife encounters.
LEOPARD SPOTTING Although elusive, leopards are found in large numbers throughout Sri Lanka. Fast earning a reputation as one of the best places in the world to spot these magnifi cent cats, places like Wilpattu and Yala National Parks in particular provide ideal conditions for these large predators, with Yala reputedly holding the highest density of leopards anywhere.
WHALE WATCHING The coastal waters off Sri Lanka provide a haven for some of the densest populations of marine mammals in the world. During the whale watching season, that runs between December and April, excursions can be arranged off the coast of Trincomalee or Galle to search for dolphins, blue and sperm whales.
BIRD WATCHING A bird watcher’s paradise, Sri Lanka enjoys a reputation for some of the most diverse birdlife in Asia. Attracting some 400 species, including almost 200 migrant species, places like Sinharaja Rainforest and the Bundala Wetlands National Park are home to spoonbills, lapwings, kingfi shers and large fl ocks of greater fl amingos.
DAY 9 – Nuwara Eliya Traverse the plateaus of Horton Plains National Park in search of sambar, bear monkeys and some of the island’s rare highland birds.
DAY 10 – Udawalawe National Park Travel via Ella Waterfalls to Udawalawe to spot its large elephant population. Stay overnight inside the park at the luxury Mahoora Safari Camp. Unlimited game drive time.
DAY 11 – Yala National Park Morning game drive before travelling to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s most famous area for wildlife spotting. En route visit the Born Free Foundation to see the Elephant Transit Home. 2 nights at Chaaya Wild.
Day 12 – Yala National Park Morning and afternoon game drives in search of leopard, langurs and Asian elephants. The park is also home to many more animals including macaque, sambur, spotted deer, sloth bear, water buffalo and an array of aquatic birds.
DAY 13 – Galle
Bundala National Park bird safari then on to the Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel & Spa, Galle for 2 nights. En route visit the Dikwella Lace Centre.
DAY 14 – Galle
Optional city tour of the UNESCO fort and captivating back streets of Old Galle or whale watching tour. Afternoon to relax on the beach.
DAY 15 – Fly to the UK Fly Sri Lankan Airlines to Heathrow.
