DAYS 5/6 - Shibu Onsen & Matsumoto Bullet train ride to see the cute snow monkeys at Yudanaka with an overnight at Issano Komichi Biyunoyado. Proceed to Matsumoto for a visit to the famous castle. Overnight at Tobira Onsen Myojinkan.


DAYS 7 to 10 - Takayama & Kanazawa 2 days in each small town, staying at the Hida Hotel Plaza and Ana Hotel with a visit to Shirakawa-go for the opportunity to explore its captivating old farm houses, taking in the traditional architectural style of the Gasshozukuri houses.


DAYS 11/12 - Hiroshima & Miyajima 1 night at the Rihga Royal Hotel with leisure time to explore the Peace Museum and Park. 1 night at a traditional ryokan on Miyajima Island. Visit the Itsukushima Shrine.

MATSUE The ‘Water City’ of Matsue lies on the eastern shore of Lake Shinji, close to the Izumo-taisha, one of the oldest and largest Shinto shrines in the country. The city is also home to a 17th century castle that is one of the only authentic wooden castles left in Japan.


TSUWANO


Set amongst the hilly landscapes of San’in, the picturesque town of Tsuwano is known as ‘Little Kyoto’. Its main street is lined with Edo-era buildings including saki breweries and 17th century Samurai residences, whilst the nearby sites of Youmei-ji Temple and the Taikodani-Inari Shrine remain popular attractions.

DAYS 6/7 - Hiroshima Walking tour of historic Tsuwano before leaving for Hiroshima and 2 nights at the Hotel Hiroden. Tour of the Memorial Park and A bomb museum. Ferry to Miyajima Island to visit the Itsukushima Shrine.

The celebrated cherry blossom season (sakura) heralds the arrival of spring with traditional music, dance and tea ceremonies across Japan. The April and October departures of the Japan Panorama Escorted tours incorporate a visit to the Takayama Festival (matsuri) to see the decorated floats being pulled through the town and the main procession the following day.
