BANTER members Chris Hannaway, a third year Management student and Will Hammersley, third year Physics, started their company, Arctic Farm, in 2007.
Their unique brand of frozen yoghurt is stocked in shops across the South of England as well as Harrods.
“If you have an ambition to create a venture or start a company, I can only advise that you go for it, right away, whatever your current situation is. It’s a tough slog to get anywhere, we had to ring Harrods every day for three months for them to take our call, but, as you make progress, it all becomes worth it. There’s no better place than here on campus: by getting involved with BANTER, the Entrepreneurs Society, you’ll learn a lot or possibly get your first break through them, as we did.”

Encouraging innovation Many departments have set up schemes which bring together successful businesses and students, such as the
School of Management ‘Bath Entrepreneur in Residence Scheme’ (BEIR), which aims to create an entrepreneurial community: combining academic knowledge with practical application. The advice and support has already benefited many students, including BSc Business Administration student Alex Edwards, who started his bespoke tailoring business Aptus Suits, and now boasts an impressive client base, including high profile politicians.
Students can also get involved with BANTER, the student led company for young entrepreneurs, which provides training and support for students with existing businesses, whilst helping to nurture new ones.
“I feel my placement with GlaxoSmithKline has proven to be an extremely interesting, worthwhile and rewarding experience which I’ve learnt a great deal from and which I’m confident I will continue to value for many years to come.” Jonathan Sliney, GlaxoSmithKline, Lucozade Sports Academy, Slough
