The Library Situated at the heart of the campus the Library will play an essential role in your studies at the University of Bath. The Library is open 24 hours a day, every day. With over 1,200 study spaces, arranged for group work and private study, we aim to provide you with the information you need and a place to work at a time that suits you.

The Library has a wealth of resources with more than 500,000 printed books, 20,000 electronic books and over 18,000 journal titles. Our web-based catalogue and homepage guide you to high-quality materials in your subject area, as well as providing you with information on all Library services. The Library’s electronic resources are accessible over the Internet from anywhere using your University username and password. We also have extensive 24 hour photocopying, scanning and printing services within the Library building.

Library staff are always willing to help with enquiries and more specific queries will be handled by the subject specialist for your area of study. At the beginning of your first semester you will attend an introductory session on using the Library’s services and resources. Further sessions on how to fully exploit all the information you need will be arranged throughout your time at Bath.

Computing Services The University of Bath Computing Services (BUCS) work with the faculties and departments to provide appropriate computing facilities to help you with your studies. Most students are issued with a computer username and password before they join the University. This allows them to use one of 1,000 PCs, terminals and docking stations, that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the library and beyond. There are also more than 500 PCs installed in dedicated teaching labs.

A comprehensive suite of Microsoft and other leading software is available together with mono and colour laser printers and scanners. We also provide subject-specific software including, for example, statistics and engineering drawing packages.

You will have access to the internet and of course email. You can also connect to a number of powerful UNIX servers and a High Performance Computer with 800 cores for programming. From your own room in the University accommodation on campus you can access all the above services. In addition we have equipped the University extensively with wireless technology, to enable internet access from virtually all public areas of the campus.
