Bath takes its sport very seriously. With outstanding facilities and expertise, sport is open to all.
The Department of Sports Development and Recreation is responsible for:
n offering recreational opportunities for all members of the University to enjoy sport, regardless of ability
n providing instruction and tuition in a range of activities
n providing one of the leading high performance environments in Europe, hosting National and Regional squads across 12 sports.
The teaching and facilities staff are complimented by a team of professional coaches, who work with a wide range of performers up to Olympic level. The Department has a close relationship with the Students’ Union Sports Association, which has over 4,000 members and runs 49 student clubs.
Facilities The University has an extensive range of sports and recreation facilities:
n The Founders Complex – a multi- purpose hall (8 badminton courts, 4 squash courts and 25m swimming pool).
n The Sports Training Village – floodlit 8 lane athletics track, water-based hockey pitch, one all weather pitch, 50m swimming pool, 8 court indoor tennis hall and 8 acrylic and two clay outdoor tennis courts, fitness and conditioning suite, multi-purpose hall (12 badminton courts), 300 sq m judo dojo, 8 fencing pistes, 16 station air pistol range, indoor athletics hall and 132m sprint straight, a bobsleigh/ skeleton push track, and many rugby and football pitches.
n The Sulis Sports Club – two cricket squares and nets and several rugby pitches.

The Sports Injury Clinic & Human Performance Centre The Sports Injury Clinic, located in the Sports Training Village, provides leading physiotherapy and massage services to athletes and the public. The expertise is available to students at a discounted rate. The Human Performance Centre encompasses a range of services including fitness and physiological testing, strength and conditioning support, sports nutrition advice, sports psychology and video and performance analysis. Courses and workshops in various support service fields are also delivered during the academic year.
