University of Bath Faculty of Science Chemistry Why study Chemistry at Bath?

Studying Chemistry at Bath means working in a dynamic, exciting environment. The Department of Chemistry at Bath has an annual intake of around 100 well-qualified undergraduates which means that there is a friendly, positive working atmosphere. Everyone – staff and students – gets to know each other quickly.

High quality teaching and research: All members of staff are active in chemical research at the forefront of the subject and this feeds into their teaching, conveying the excitement of the most recent developments in chemistry. Undergraduate students also experience this for themselves during research projects as part of their degree.

Flexibility and choice: You don’t have to decide which programme to study until you get here, and there is plenty of opportunity to choose between our Chemistry, Drug Discovery, Education and Management degrees, as well as whether to do MChem or BSc.

Industrial Training: The majority of programmes in the Department of Chemistry offer students the opportunity to do a placement year in industry or at an overseas university. For most of our students, this means working as a paid researcher in a company for a year. A huge range of placements are available, from working on the latest pharmaceuticals to making cappuccinos more frothy!
