emphasis is on politics rather than theoretical economics, but all students will acquire a solid foundation in economics. In an increasingly globalised world with ever closer relations between European states and the international community at large, this is an extremely important and relevant combination of academic disciplines.


The particular features of the BSc Politics with Economics at Bath are:


n particular focus on Europe, including Central and Eastern Europe, in the context of world affairs and the globalising international economy, but with the possibility of in-depth study of the US and International Politics too


n close integration of Political Science, Political Economy, International Relations and other social sciences in the study of European societies


n the opportunity to study languages as an additional option.


Politics with a European Language This BA degree combines:


Politics with International Relations


The Politics with International Relations degree offers an exciting strand of International Relations (IR) programmes running through all years, together with the possibility of choosing related options in IR, Politics and other subjects such as languages and international development. Although the degree is assessed in the Department of European Studies, this programme covers politics and international relations at a global level, including US politics and foreign policy.


The 4 year version of the programme allows students to gain valuable work experience via a government, NGO or business placement.


Politics with Economics


The degree is designed to appeal to students who wish to combine the study of politics with that of economics; the main


n the study of the discipline of politics (including International Relations)


n the study of a European language in cultural and political context


n a third year abroad (See page 41 for possibilities).
