Social & Policy Sciences www.bath.ac.uk/soc-pol

Sociology with Human Resource Management: this is a four-year programme that combines the study of sociology with theory and practice in human resource management.

Social Policy: the degree is designed to enable students to analyse the new developments that are transforming the Welfare State - and creating a more diverse system of welfare - and to relate these changes to societal, technological and economic changes in Britain and Europe.

Sociology and Social Policy: this joint Honours degree provides an opportunity for students who want to combine the study of sociology and social policy.

Social Sciences: the degree offers a broad-based training in the Social Sciences. It is especially appropriate for students who, while interested in the social sciences in general, do not wish to specialise in one particular discipline.

The placement year

Our degrees can be studied over four years, with the third year spent on placement. Sociology and Social Policy students can take placements in commercial, voluntary or government organisations, or in a research setting. Students taking Sociology with Human Resources Management have a compulsory placement in personnel, training or human resource management departments, unless they have relevant work experience. Placements may be paid or unpaid.

Key facts

n 87 places available n 400 applicants n One of the top rated departments in the country n Exciting options linked to department expertise n Possibility of doing a placement

a natural choice for me. Not only does it have one of the best Social and Policy Sciences Departments in the country, but also outstanding sports facilities and fantastic society and leisure activities. The course is demanding but the staff have been nothing but encouraging and supportive throughout my studies, and the library is well- resourced and open 24/7, which is always a bonus. The lectures are fascinating and we do get an opportunity at seminars to exchange our views with other students. Bath seems like a perfect option if you are serious about what you study and if you want to have a wide variety of options available to you after you graduate.
