Dance and Theatre Regular weekly dance classes at all levels range from jazz, ballet, contemporary, street and tap dance.


Classes take place in the ICIA Arts Theatre and are led by professional tutors. Students, as well as members of the public, enrol for blocks of classes each semester, students paying a discounted rate.


ICIA works with the students’ performing arts societies, organising a range of workshops and projects for members, aimed to develop skills and confidence in all areas. Recent workshops have focused on experimental theatre, contemporary dance and working with masks.


Venue magazine put ICIA in its ‘twenty most inspiring things’ to do in the region, and said that ICIA “...arguably does more than any other body in the city to seek out and nurture today’s cutting edge artists, whatever their genre – programming and commissioning dance, theatre, music and art events and holding talks and symposia on fascinating and brain-crunching philosophic-artistic themes.”


The Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts


ICIA organises a vibrant and diverse programme of live performances, exhibitions, concerts and classes for University students, staff and the wider community.


ICIA also works closely with the Students’ Union to support the work of the many arts societies. Offering practical support and advice, ICIA encourages students to get involved in the arts and media at any level.


On the national stage, ICIA commissions new arts projects from leading dance and performance companies, musicians and visual artists, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary practice. Opportunities are provided for students to work with visiting artists for intensive periods, then showcase the results.


As well as cheaper tickets for performances by visiting professional artists, students receive large discounts on the regular cost of a wide range of classes and workshops, including


ICIA presents an exciting programme of professional dance and theatre performances open to all. Recent visitors have included one of the UK’s rising talents, award-winning choreographer, Ben Wright and his ensemble bgroup. ‘About around’ – the latest piece by his company to be performed at ICIA – was praised by Time Out: “If you’re looking for something that’s both new and impressive then this could be your best bet.”


Music Musicians attending the University of Bath can take advantage of a range of fantastic opportunities, including:
