56 University of Bath Faculty of Science Mathematical Sciences Why study Mathematics at Bath?

Mathematics is a rich and diverse subject, and this is reflected in the contents of our undergraduate degree programmes. We have units which cater for the tastes of pure mathematicians, as well as units for those who enjoy rigorous applied mathematics. Probability, statistics and mathematical modelling are also available as part of the extensive menu of units. Our first year programme is designed to allow everyone to sample the various strains of university mathematics, so that they can make an educated choice about their future units and career.

Our flexible programme begins with a common first year, after which students’ curricula diverge according to their interests in pure and applied mathematics, probability and statistics. Some of our degrees even allow a substantial content of computing beyond the first year. A limited number of options from other departments are also possible, including Physics and Management, which offers units in accounting and finance.

We offer BSc degrees for students seeking employment or professional training on graduation and a 4 year MMath for those with scientific and research ambitions or wanting an in-depth programme.
