This programme is designed to meet the needs for highly trained translators in today’s international marketplace. You will attend keynote lectures and seminars on specialised translation and business practice, delivered by invited professionals in the field. Topics and documents relate to fields covered in professional translation, such as economics, transport, medicine, telecommunications and international organisations.

Core modules: • Specialised Translation with Translation Technology - two languages into English or one language into and from English


• Principles and Strategies of Translation • Translation Project Management and Professional Skills


• Research Methodologies and Approaches in Translation and Interpreting Studies


Optional modules: • Business Interpreting • Lexicography and Terminology • English for Academic Purposes (for non-native speakers of English)

Dissertation/Translation Project


Suitable for Speakers of English and either French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Spanish or Turkish. It provides high-level translation skills required for careers in translation companies and departments in the UK, abroad, in international organisations or in the freelance sector.


Career potential


Our graduates have found employment in publishing and as translation managers and terminologists. Some take up academic posts teaching translation at university level. A number of graduates are working with international organisations in the EU including the European Commission (SCIC) as well as for a range of international companies.

It is aimed at speakers of English and either Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Spanish or Turkish who intend to work in translation companies and departments in the UK, abroad, in international organisations or the freelance sector.

Graduates can expect to pursue careers as translators, either freelance or in a translation department or company and as highly specialised linguists in an international business environment. Some may take up academic posts teaching translation at university level.
