Programme details
This programme provides high-level interpreting and translating skills for careers in international and regional organisations or in the freelance sector. You will attend keynote lectures and seminars on specialised translation and business practice, delivered by invited professionals in this field, and participate in mock conferences. Topics and documents relate to fields covered in professional translation, such as economics, transport, telecommunications, medicine and international organisations.

Dissertation/Translation Project Suitable for
Speakers of English and French, German or Spanish, who want to become highly-trained translators, interpreters and linguists at an international level.
Career potential
Graduates can expect to pursue careers as professional linguists, either as freelance translators and interpreters, or in a translation department or company. Some graduates have developed careers in publishing and as translation managers and terminologists. A number of graduates of our Masters in Interpreting and Translating are working with international organisations in the EU including the European Commission (SCIC) as well as for a range of international companies such as SAP, Volkswagen, Alcatel, KPMG and Siemens.

This programme is built around a suite of core and optional modules which depend on whether or not you already have two years’ teaching experience. It uses a variety of teaching and learning methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops, personal study and research.

Dissertation Suitable for
This programme is designed to meet the needs of applicants who would like to become English teachers as well as those who are looking to build upon and upgrade their existing teaching qualifications. It focuses on combining theoretical insights in English language teaching (ELT) and learning with practical applications to specified contexts.
Career potential
Upon completion of this programme, applicants will frequently go on to work as English language teachers, directors of study and education managers in schools, colleges and universities. Some students may go on to further study by research (MPhil), or a doctorate (PhD).
