This stimulating programme builds upon our strength in teaching and researching sociology, criminology and law, while focusing on current debates and controversies of national and international relevance. The interdisciplinary perspective enables students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the philosophical, political, anthropological, ethical, and socio-legal foundations and implications of human rights and humanitarian ethics.

Programme details


Intelligence and security issues have become increasingly prominent in public debates since the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 and the launch of the war on Iraq. This programme is the longest-running non-governmental postgraduate programme in the UK to offer the opportunity to study contemporary intelligence and security issues. In addition, the increasing availability of archival intelligence material in the public domain means it is possible to place these issues within their historical context.
