We know that effective leadership and management does not happen by chance. This practice-related programme is aimed at all health care professionals who want to develop the knowledge, skills and qualities to be an effective health care leader. This leadership and management programme is designed to give you the confidence to try new and creative approaches to the workplace, deal with complex leadership situations and provide
effective patient and service outcomes. Module titles

Programme details
This programme provides practising midwives and other health care professionals with the opportunity to explore and analyse the latest developments in midwifery knowledge and practice. You will be encouraged to evaluate your own clinical practice, as well as to clinically appraise wider issues relevant to women and families in society.
Leadership in the NHS forms part of this programme and you will be encouraged to opt for a module in leading and managing in your workplace.
Module titles
To achieve the Masters in Midwifery, you will need to complete a minimum of two modules from pot 1, and two modules from pots 1 or 2, plus the dissertation.
Pot 1: • Examination of the Newborn (30 credits) • Complex Childbirth (30 credits) • Normal Childbirth (30 credits) • Preparation for Mentorship E-Learning (30 credits)
Pot 2: • Research Methods (30 credits) • Leading and Managing in Health Care Organisations (30 credits)
• Leading Change for Patient and/or Service Improvement (30 credits)
• Managing Safeguarding (30 credits) Dissertation (60 credits)
Suitable for Midwives and other health care professionals who aspire to develop their career to become for example, a midwife consultant, manager, lecturer or who wish to continue their professional education at postgraduate level.
Career potential
Past students have gone on to take up posts as midwifery managers, educationalists and consultant midwives. Others have continued their studies at PhD level, for example undertaking the Professional Doctorate offered at this University.
