This core programme involves foundation modules in Linguistics, Psycholinguistics and Psychology of Language Learning alongside translating modules which will allow you to develop skills required of highly trained translators in today’s international marketplace.
You will also attend keynote lectures and seminars on specialised translation and business practice, delivered by invited professionals in the field.

Programme details
This programme develops the techniques required for translating and interpreting in an increasingly competitive environment. You will work into and out of both Arabic and English. The elements of the programme are integrated in order to develop those skills most needed by international, governmental and non- governmental organisations, academic institutions and the media. This programme also provides a solid training in more theoretical aspects of translation for those students wishing to go on to doctoral research.

Suitable for
Students who want to become professional translators or to go on to PhD research and an academic career in these areas. Students are expected to be native speakers or near-native speakers of Arabic with a high level of competence in English, or native speakers or near-native speakers of English with a high level of competence in Arabic.
Career potential
Some of our graduates are employed in embassies or the British Council. Others work in the private sector, eg, for translation agencies and petroleum development companies. A good proportion of students go on to PhD research and a career as university lecturers. This programme has a close association with the University’s Centre for Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies.
