STREAMLINING WORKFLOWS WITH AUTOMATION Backlight
BY KIRSTY HAZLEWOOD
Building on its acquisition of Iconik, Wildmoka, Zype, cineSync and ftrack, Backlight is showcasing a varied product lineup at IBC, promising automated media workfl ows, effi ciency, security and fl exibility for users.
For example, the Iconik automation engine aims to simplify user accessibility for media management via a no-code interface. Team members, regardless of technical expertise, can set up and benefi t from automated workfl ows by building simple ‘if this then that’ automations that support hybrid cloud media management effi ciency.
Backlight is also
showing AI summaries/ topic extraction for any audio or video fi le within Iconik and AI-powered facial recognition
technology for video and image fi les. The company’s
content management and distribution tools are designed to streamline the production of linear playout channels. New scheduling capabilities in Zype Playout offer automation of playout channel programming using blocks that dynamically populate with video assets from their library based on specifi c criteria. Wildmoka Clip Studio features smart segmentation, which uses AI-based content analysis (speech, audio, image, markers) to identify and segment program blocks automatically. 1.D09

PROTECTING ITALY’S HERITAGE Digital Film Technology BY KEVIN EMMOTT
On the back of a new installation at Cinecittà in Rome, Italy, the Sondor Versa audio scanner is taking centre stage on the DFT stand. Providing the ability to digitise optical audio and create digital audio fi les in software, the machine has been installed at the Cinecittà Luce Archivio, which holds a large volume of image and audio content under its responsibility as the operative branch of the ministry of culture of Italy.
DFT says its Sondor Resonance
option provides a way to preserve fragile and critical materials at optimum quality.
Adriano Fabio, Sound Editor and Restoration Specialist at Cinecittà, said: “This machine was a must- have for our sound transfer and digitisation work. We have a total of eight head blocks (optical and magnetic) which allow us to handle any material at the best quality whether it is 16mm, 17.5mm or 35mm. The Sondor Versa and Resonances enables us to preserve and enhance our archival materials, many of which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.” 6.A16
