#IBC2024 TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTATIONS SHARE 5G AND VVC FINDINGS

‘5G Case Studies – public network slicing trials and striving for low latency’ and ‘5G Technology – Convergence with broadcast’ make up two of the three Technical Papers being presented as part of the IBC Conference today. 5G Case Studies will see Angus Stewart, Product Lead, Media Solutions, Telstra Broadcast Services, present two papers. The fi rst provides technical insight into a series of trials conducted alongside national broadcasters and sports producers exploring the use cases, workfl ow, viability and effi cacy of advanced slicing techniques on the public sub-6GHz 5G network. The second paper is a collaborative effort from BBC R&D, TV2 and Neutral Wireless that seeks to optimise 5G for low-latency production in both TV studio settings and multi-camera outdoor broadcasts. Javier Rodriguez Fernandez,

Senior Engineer, Technical Standards, Qualcomm Technologies, and Thomas Stockhammer, Senior Director Technical Standards, Qualcomm Germany, will then present ‘5G Technologies – Convergence with broadcast’. The fi rst paper will investigate the technical feasibility of a 5G broadcast simultaneously co-existing in the same UHF channel as a traditional broadcast (ATSC 3.0, DVB-T2, ISDB-T), while the second paper fi nalises the work done to provide seamless service discovery (using DVB-I) with the delivery options of 5G (5G Broadcast, 5G Media Streaming or hybrid). Also being presented today is ‘Advances in Video Coding – Encoder optimisations and fi lm grain’. This extended session features four authors presenting current research on two important topics – encoder optimisations and fi lm grain processing.
