Learning outcomes Each chapter begins with a set of learning outcomes to guide students through the content.
Tips and key terms Tip and key term boxes appear throughout to aid understanding.
Examples Power of Maths is packed with examples. Worked Examples explain the reasoning behind a given approach to solving a problem. These examples underpin the philosophy behind the new approach to learning Maths.
Numbered Examples apply the principles learnt to all types of situations. They utilise the more traditional approach to teaching Maths.
Short Examples appear throughout the text and are indicated by a green arrow. These examples give students short and snappy explanations, helping them to undertake the exercises that follow.
Exercises
Exercises appear at regular intervals in the text so that students can carry out questions with a minimum amount of teaching.
Questions in the exercises are graded. Earlier questions provide plenty of practice and rigour to allow students to become totally familiar with the techniques required for carrying out a particular mathematical procedure. Gradually students are asked to use these techniques and apply them to real-life situations.
Activity boxes Activity boxes in the margin direct students to optional extra activities in the Activity Book.
