‘Open farms’ provide visitors with an opportunity to see farm animals along with traditional and modern farm activities in a safe environment. They also host group events such as school tours and children’s parties.

The LEADER Programme helps farmers to develop alternative income streams, for example, ‘open farms’ (Fig. 19.8).
One of the biggest challenges facing agriculture in the Western Region is the UK’s exit from the EU. As the UK provides €8 billion to CAP funding at present, this is likely to mean a cut in funds to all CAP projects in the coming years.
