Trend graph
• Also known as a line graph • Used to show patterns or trends in data over time
• To construct: Use graph paper – draw and label axes – plot data – connect plotted points
• Must include a relevant title Scatter graph • Used to show the relationship between two data sets
• Positive correlation: as values on x-axis increase, values on y-axis increase
• Negative correlation: as values on x-axis increase, values on y-axis decrease
• Must include a relevant title Triangle graph
• Usually used to compare soil compositions • Three different data sets – three labelled axes • To read, start with left axis and continue clockwise • Must include a relevant title
Choropleth
• Used in demographic studies • Shading/colouring show data variations • Key shows categories • Must include a relevant title
Climograph
• Used for climate data • Precipitation represented in bar chart format • Temperature represented in line graph format • Must include a relevant title
Pie chart • Shows data in percentages of a whole
• To construct: Use a protractor – 1%= 3.6° – show percentages in each sector – colour or shade sectors
• Use key for colour/shading • Must include a relevant title
