Time of year It is possible to figure out the time of year a photograph was taken by recognising a variety of features.
Spring • Trees have a light covering of leaves. • Calves or lambs are close to their mothers.
Summer • Deciduous trees and bushes are fully leafed. • Cereal crops appear ripe (yellow). • Hay or straw bales in fields. • Animals may be grazing. • Crowded beaches at the coast.
Autumn • Leaves on trees have numerous shades – red, yellow, brown. • Fields are cleared of hay or straw bales.
Winter • No leaves on trees. • No animals in the fields. • Recently ploughed fields. • Snow on the ground. • Chimney smoke indicates lower temperatures. • Rivers may be brown in colour following flooding.
