benchmarks for treatment efficacy. Both agents have been widely studied and demonstrate measurable improvements in hair density and regrowth, but their limitations highlight the need for alternative solutions. ■ Minoxidil (topical 2–5%) has been shown to increase hair counts by an average of 15–18 hairs/ cm2
after 12 months of use.25 However, treatment
adherence is often poor due to scalp irritation, dryness, or unwanted changes in hair texture. Regrowth typically halts upon discontinuation, making lifelong use necessary. ■ Finasteride (1 mg oral daily) reduces dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by approximately 60–70% in the scalp, slowing progression of androgenetic alopecia and improving hair counts by ~10–15% over 2 years.11
Yet, systemic use has
been linked to adverse events including decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and post-finasteride syndrome in rare cases. By comparison, newer natural or plant-derived
serums are designed to provide benefits with a more favourable safety and tolerability profile. For example, pumpkin seed oil supplementation increased mean hair count by 40% in men with androgenetic alopecia after 24 weeks,16
while
rosemary oil applied topically demonstrated comparable efficacy to minoxidil 2% after six months, but with fewer complaints of scalp itching.15 These findings suggest that while
pharmaceutical benchmarks provide predictable efficacy, natural-based formulations—such as the serum evaluated in this study—offer promising alternatives that may deliver clinically meaningful benefits without the long-term risks or adherence challenges associated with conventional drugs. natural products and improved ways to achieve optimal hair health. They canvas drugstores and
