INSIGHT - GRAND NATIONAL UK

Virtual Grand National Sweepstake Degree 53

Degree 53, specialists in the UX, design and software development, created a Virtual Grand National sweepstake generator for the nation of remote workers tuning into the Virtual Grand National on Saturday, 4th April 2020.

Every year, the Grand National sweepstake is part of the office life in Britain, and this year Degree 53 believed should be no different.

Degree 53 offered an opportunity for everyone to run their own sweepstakes to take part in the event and raise funds for the NHS. Offices working remotely, without the ability to draw a sweepstake with their colleagues, could use the website for free to pick a horse for everyone in the office.

multi-channel streaming for the betting industry. Serving over 20 million hours of live streams to the world’s top bookmakers per year, the company employs proprietary LOLA encoders to deliver low latency streams via a network of CDNs, orchestrated by the MediaPlatform OVP.

Steve Rogers, Chief Commercial Officer - Virtual Sports at Inspired Entertainment commented: “We’ve worked with StreamAMG to deliver virtual sports for almost 10 years, their reliability and track record as a trusted partner made them the natural choice to stream the Virtual Grand National.”

Matt McKiernan, Chief Operating Officer at StreamAMG added: “We’re proud to have supported the Virtual Grand National, which

has proved to be a real highlight of the year so far, and we’re delighted to be trusted to deliver such an event.”

Te virtual race, produced by Manchester’s Carm Productions, took centre stage after the real race was cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis. Carm Productions said: "What an incredible few days it has been. We first aired the Virtual Grand National in 2017, and we feel honoured that it has been able to stand in for the Grand National at this difficult time. Let’s hope it has entertained racegoers and the wider public.

“We also hope that has been able to help raise funds to support the NHS at this important time. We would also like to thank ITV and Te Jockey Club of their ongoing help and support.”

Inspired Entertainment and UK bookmakers brought the Virtual Grand National to British viewers during a period in which the actual event was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative was backed by Betting and Gaming Council members. While the bookmakers took bets, they agreed a strict code of ethics and to the donation of all profits to support the NHS during the COVID-19 combat.

Andrew Daniels, Managing Director at Degree 53 commented: “The Grand National is a part of our great nation’s DNA. It’s fantastic that the Virtual Grand National ran on the Saturday as the real event was cancelled. Not only has it boosted everyone’s morale, but it also raised funds for our NHS Heroes.

“The office sweepstake is equally part and parcel of the event, and we wanted to make sure that this could continue, which is why we were happy to bring it to the public. While offices are now all working from home, things like this can easily be done remotely and it’s something that can bring people together during these difficult times.”
