Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Gov. Cuomo has had far more pressing matters to deal with but mobile gaming could be an option to raise much needed revenues later. Cuomo was elected to a third term in November. In his 2020-2021 budget presentation, betting was only expanded beyond the limits of sports betting facilities within casinos already allowed to offer sports betting. The state came into the fiscal year facing a $6 billion budget gap, and that could increase to $10 billion to $15 billion by the time the coronavirus runs its course.

Mobile sports betting will have to wait but the current crisis could mean that the state takes another look before the end of the year. New York lawmakers finished passing a $177billion state budget as most lawmakers voted remotely via the internet in April. Online sports betting was not considered in the bill.
State lawmaker Sen. Joseph Addabbo, who has been a strong supporter of sports betting in the state, said that it could be reconsidered at some point this year. The senator said that he had held meetings with state budget director Rob Mujica before the budget deadline but to avail.
“It’s almost irresponsible at this point not to consider online sports gambling to help address where we now find ourselves, ” he told Daily News saying that he would continue to fight for mobile gambling in the
Governor Jay Inslee has signed into law a bill authorising sports betting. In March the Washington Senate approved a bill authorizing sports betting in Native American tribal casinos. The bill passed by 34-15 vote after two hours debate which included an emergency clause meaning that there is no need for a referendum on the issue. The bill means that private card rooms in the state will be left out for now but it is good news for tribal casinos and tribal organisations as casinos have been closed in the state due to COVID-19. State tribes take in an estimated $2.8 billion annually through legalized gambling, which is used to fund a number of crucial services.
Executive director of the Washington Indian Gaming Association Rebecca Kaldor said that while casino closures in the state have impacted funding “the silver lining is that this (sports betting) will be an added amenity tribes can use to get our communities back up and running in a healthy way.’’
However Eric Persson CEO of Maverick Gaming operator of 19 of the 44 card rooms in Washington State had written to the governor to ask him to block the bill saying that: “The issue of sports betting is not just about commercial gaming and the sovereign rights of Tribal governments, for which I have deep respect. It is about how to create

The Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission (CLGCC) has granted 32 more licenses with the state planning to go ahead with its planned May 1st launch. In November 2019, Proposition DD was passed with a vote of the people allowing for legalising sports betting in Colorado.
In February the commission approved the first seven master sports betting licenses and finalized a permanent set of rules for the market. The Colorado Division of Gaming has issued licenses in the mountain gambling towns of Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek. Every Colorado casino is expected to open a sports book.

Political betting on the outcome of the upcoming Presidential race lasted just two hours before it was removed from FanDuel website. West Virginia was the first U.S. sportsbook to post odds on a political event but The West Virginia Lottery, asked FanDuel to take down the odds as it looked into the legality of sports betting in the state.
In a statement FanDuel said:"While the markets were approved, the West Virginia Lottery has asked FanDuel to refrain from offering the markets until they have time to fully work through the implications of this new market offering."
On March 23, Governor Jim Justice ordered non-essential businesses to be closed immediately, and issued a stay-at-home order effective March 24.
“While we are excited about the possibility of offering odds on politics and elections to our customers in West Virginia, we are taking the time to ensure we evaluate the opportunity thoroughly before posting any lines," Matt Kalish, co-founder and president of DraftKings North America, said in a statement.

Washington D.C has delayed the launch of its sports betting platform amidst the current crisis. Washington, D.C. Council members have given Intralot the only contract to manage online sports betting and the lottery and sports betting was due to launch by March 31. Intralot’s lottery app and web platforms were both tested and approved to go live. However Nicole Jordan, director of marketing and communications for Intralot said that the company was revising its sports wagering launch strategy “based on the current state of world events, but will be posting information about the platform in the coming days, including introducing the brand and its functionalities. The Lottery and Intralot are prepared to launch the platform when it is safe for the sports world to return.”

Senate Bill 4 has passed through the House meaning that the state is closer than ever before to passing a sports betting bill. The five land based casinos and one racino are regulated by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA). In March 2019 Attorney General Brian Frosh said that any expansion of gambling must go for a ballot meaning that sports betting would not be addressed until this year. In March the Senate voted 47- 0 for sports betting legislation which went to the House for approval. If Governor Larry Hogan gives it the go-ahead, voters will have the final say in November. The House Committee on Means and Ways made a number of amendments to how the referendum is phrased which will now read “Do you favour the expansion of commercial gaming in the State of Maryland to authorize sports and event betting for the primary purpose of raising revenue for education?”
Mobile sports betting will also be allowed at six Maryland casinos, as well as three race tracks Pimlico Race Course, Laurel Park and Maryland State Fairgrounds and potentially a new stadium in partnership with NFL franchise, the Washington Redskins.
