Lisbon makes for the perfect recipe for exploration. Fascinating museums engage and enthral, while vintage trams weave through quaint backstreets, and architectural wonders evoke a rich maritime history. On the subject of recipes, be sure to try a famous pastry at Pasteis de Belém – the secret formula has remained unchanged since the 19th
century.
An overnight stay in Lisbon gives time to really make the most of the city and the region. You can enjoy authentic culture with a performance of Fado music or venture further afield to pretty Óbidos or fairytale Sintra. After the hustle and bustle comes the chance to relax amid the outdoor cafés, beautiful waterfront panoramas and pretty townscapes of Portimão, perched on the Algarve coast.
Boudicca will call into Leixões to round off your journey of discovery. Here you’ll be well-placed for tours to Oporto. Portugal’s second city is renowned for its historic centre, which is rightly a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Foremost is the Ribeira District, where narrow lanes meander down to the Douro River. Opt for a cruise along the tranquil waters perhaps before stopping at a wine cellar to savour locally produced Port wine.
