Leixões is the gateway to the Portuguese city of Oporto and a rewarding first stop en route to the sun-kissed Mediterranean. You’ll find a collection of Neoclassical buildings and imposing Baroque churches, fortress-like cathedral and world-famous Port wine cellars in this UNESCO-listed city. A relaxing day of cruising follows, before Boudicca arrives in Malaga. The many attractions of the Costa del Sol’s charming capital include the Picasso Museum, the Baroque cathedral and Moorish Alcazaba Fortress. You could opt to take a tour to Granada and Alhambra Palace, or picturesque Ronda Valley too.
Along Spain’s Mediterranean coast, the stunning Catalan city of Barcelona awaits. Once docked you could go ashore and take in bustling Las Ramblas, the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Eulalia and Antoni Gaudi’s architectural wonders. No time spent in Barcelona is complete without seeing the spectacular Sagrada Familia, it’s arguably Gaudi’s most iconic work.
During two days on the French Riviera there are plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the style and sophistication of this captivating part of the
world. In Toulon you’ll find a beautiful old town packed with fine Romanesque architecture – the grand Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-Majeure is particularly impressive. For an authentic taste of daily life here, be sure to stop by the traditional Provençal markets on Cours Lafayette.
In Nice, you’ll find plenty of experiences to enjoy. Perhaps take a walk along Promenade des Anglais to the Bay of Angels, people-watch at the busy Cours Saleya market, or simply indulge in some relaxation at your pick of the glorious beaches. You’ll also have the option to tour to Monaco and witness the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix. This race is considered the most exciting in the Formula One calendar. This would be your chance to soak up all the excitement as the world’s best drivers race through the narrow public streets and tunnels of the glamorous principality.
As your holiday nears its conclusion you’ll visit the historic Spanish city of Cartagena – and perhaps its imposing medieval castle, Roman amphitheatre and impressive Modernist buildings – and Gibraltar, the Mediterranean’s ‘little bit of Britain’.
