The journey begins with a call into Lorient, where there’s so much history to uncover you’ll be spoilt for choice. Options range from the Keroman Submarine Base to an interesting selection of museums and galleries. Cruising to Bordeaux, Black Watch will berth in the heart of the city, making it so much easier to see all the highlights, such as the Grand Theatre and Place de la Bourse. The ‘City Of Art and History’ is also home to 362 monuments, although no visit would be complete without sampling a little of the famous wine culture on a vineyard tour.
Next comes navigation of the scenic Seine River, ending in Rouen for exploration of the city’s rich heritage. You could opt to: learn the history behind the legends of Joan of Arc and Richard the Lionheart; admire the traditional half-timbered houses; savour the flavours of the surrounding Normandy region; or pay a visit to the Claude Monet House and Gardens.
After the second scenic cruise along the Seine, mast-filled Saint- Malo awaits. This historic resort is the gateway to the dramatic island of Mont St Michel. With its slender-spired abbey towering over narrow streets, medieval fortifications and over 60 national heritage sites, this is one of France’s most iconic places.
