Balmoral will cruise through the North Sea Canal to kick off your holiday with the delights of Amsterdam. Here you’ll benefit from a berth close to the centre, affording more time to dive into this diverse city. Arriving in the evening sets the scene for a dazzling cruise tour along the city’s famed canals.
The following day you can visit the thought- provoking Anne Frank House; immerse yourself in the Museum Quarter, home to the famous Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum; or perhaps enjoy a unique perspective as you take in the sights by bicycle.
Following a morning spent sailing the Western Scheldt River you’ll arrive in Antwerp, with Balmoral docking close to the heart of things making seeing the highlights so much easier. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts – housing works by Rubens and other ‘Flemish masters’ – the legendary diamond district, and heavenly Belgian chocolates (of course) are all recommended if you’re looking for an authentic flavour of the city. Alternatively, you could opt to savour the lovely countryside en route to the Waterloo Battlefields.
Spending several daylight hours enjoying the effortless beauty of the Seine River landscapes will take you to historic Rouen, where there’s plenty of time for you to uncover the rich heritage of the city. Among the many exciting options at your disposal there are chances to: learn the history behind the legends of Joan of Arc and Richard the Lionheart while admiring the traditional half-timbered houses on a walking tour; savour the flavours of the surrounding Normandy region; or embark on an unforgettable journey to Paris to see the iconic landmarks in the romance capital of the world.
As Balmoral guides you onwards from the historic setting of Rouen, there’ll be another opportunity to admire the Seine’s stunning backdrop before charming Honfleur welcomes you. To round off your journey of discovery there are 16th
century streets
and distinctive architectural treasures to enjoy, and an attractive old harbour (Vieux Bassin) as a reminder of a rich maritime past. Elsewhere, the many quaint cafés are perfect for watching the world go by, while tours further afield bring the Bayeux Tapestry or Claude Monet House and Gardens within reach.
