LIFTING, HANDLING & PILING

As we speak the company are investing circa €3million with Marine Architects Houlder in designing the 3rd generation of bespoke installation vessel which will be proudly named: MPI Endeavour. The designs are due for completion the back end of this year it will produce the ‘big daddy’, boasting a jacking capacity of up to 65m water depth, accommodating up to 120 personnel and 60m beam vessel.

A deck area of 6,700m² capable of accommodating five x 25m or four x 32m jackets and a main hook capable of lifting 2000Te – with a wraparound crane which allows for almost unlimited air draft on deck. It will also comfortably accommodate the installation of the next generation of supersized 7, 8, 9 and 10 MW turbines – another world first.

UNPARALLELED CAPABILITIES All four vessels, MPI Resolution, MPI Adventure and MPI Discovery and MPI Enterprise have effectively evolved over the years providing unparalleled and exceptional capabilities for installations; all four vessels have the versatility to ensure that projects are undertaken seamlessly and efficiently – albeit in shallow water or deeper, all are equipped with deck space from 2,850m² to 3,600m² and a capacity main crane from 600Te to 1,000Te - not to mention the helidecks.

FACTOID

It was interesting to hear Peter mention that traditionally ship building has a lifecycle of 20-25 years – today in the Renewables Offshore Industry that has now changed to a 5-6 year step change – quite a thought!

ONSHORE FACILITY

To add to this already impressive portfolio of services MPI offshore also have an onshore facility by way of a 5000m² modern warehouse base on the River Tees. A logistical smart move allowing this ideally positioned facility to become the hub for logistics, assembly of components, vessel loading, sea fastening fabrication and onshore client storage.

THE FUTURE

Exciting! – fast moving and keeping pace of the installation projects as the second quarter of 2016 the company have three large projects starting, as the sector ramps up and consents are granted. Peter goes on to say that they are constantly being driven by the European and UK Governments and need them to demonstrate more confidence in the market and allow this innovative business to build.

IN A NUTSHELL

Yet again column inches restrict my scribe, however I am left in no doubt that this company has the foresight, ambition and sheer tenacity to continue to achieve their visions with Peter at the helm and his dedicated team. We look forward to catching up with him again – perhaps at the inaugural launching of MPI Endeavour!
