TAKING THE LEAD IN A RENEWABLES REVOLUTION
With Hull on the cusp of a renewables revolution, a highly skilled
workforce is essential to maximise the
potential of forthcoming developments and meet the needs of inward investors.
Hull College Group is taking the lead on ensuring that industry-relevant training is available to address the skills requirement of the emerging renewable energy sector, with a range of courses from entry level to degree level qualifications. The College is developing the first Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering, working closely with industry to develop a local workforce with relevant technical and professional skills at a higher level.
SPECIALIST TRAINING FACILITIES Hull College Group recognised the economic opportunity presented by the wind energy industry and the wider renewables agenda at an early stage and has invested significantly in specialist training facilities to service renewable energy skills needs.
Specialist training facilities include…
1 150 courses related to over 100 different careers within the energy and renewables sector and associated supply chains, from NVQ Level 2 to Honours Degrees. This provision is designed to equip the local workforce for careers ranging from manufacturing and wind farm technician roles to production and technical director positions. Over the past five years the college has invested £6m in state-of-the-art facilities focused on skills required by the green energy sector, including the Centre for Digital and Green Energy which is the focal point for its extensive renewables provision.
2 The development of a Fabrication and Welding Centre of Excellence in Hull and Goole, as part of the Hull and Humber City Deal. The Centre provides skills training in areas such as fabrication and welding, construction and logistics, including innovative virtual welding facilities.
3 The CATCH Centre which is a purpose built process industry training centre, based at Stallingborough in N E Lincolnshire. Managed by HCF this world class facility allows the college to provide training for a range of process industries in a realistic and safe industry environment. CATCH is a safe, authentic, industrial facility combining process plant, workshops and outside areas with classrooms, meeting rooms and conference facilities. The site provides full-scale plant and equipment for training and competence assessment at all levels – from apprenticeships to workforce development.
