WHERE IT ALL BEGAN…
As an editor working in this industry I have experienced some great times. However the experience of visiting Whitby and Scarborough, both in North Yorkshire, will live with me for a long time to come.
We had just decided to start our own publishing company following a visit to Renewable UK in London and our first publication was to be Wind Energy Network. But where could we start? Following some research and a few phone calls it became apparent that something quite unique was happening in what to the outside world could be described as an old-fashioned seaside resort on the Yorkshire coast.
To cut a very long story very short, our first visit to the area inspired us and still does to this day. The council had made a decision to not only revitalise the area in a very forward looking way, but to grasp what was then an embryo of an industry and go for it! – see our very first edition for more info.
We have great pleasure in introducing a section within a feature – Whitby & Scarborough focusing on their training opportunities and how they have attracted many contributions from other areas.
Alex Richards, Regeneration Projects Manager explains…
A SIMPLE OBJECTIVE DELIVERING BIG AMBITIONS
“To establish Whitby & Scarborough as the most highly skilled coastal towns in England by 2030.”
For a long time in the Borough of Scarborough, which includes the coastal towns of Whitby and Filey have been striving to deliver economic resilience and diversity that out performs any other coastal town in the country.
This sense of ambition and
entrepreneurship within the communities and ability to punch above their weight on the national stage has led them to having one of the most stable, successful and diverse coastal economies in the UK. On many of the national indicators Scarborough is way ahead of the game.
OFFSHORE WIND
In recent years the Borough has had focus on the opportunities arising from the renewables sector and particularly O&M activity for offshore wind and with the closest serviceable ports to the Dogger Bank, boasting a great supply chain and business infrastructure, they have a fantastic product to offer.
