QUALIFICATIONS EXCITING NEW SCHOOL

A brand new school for 14 to 18 year olds, which focuses on the Engineering and Renewables industries, will open for the new school year in September 2015, in Scunthorpe town centre.

Humber UTC is one of a growing trend of popular University Technical Colleges. A UTC is a government funded school which offers a traditional curriculum but also provides other much needed specialist subjects.

WORKING TOGETHER

All UTCs work in partnership with a University. Humber UTC is proud to work alongside the University of Hull, to provide high academic standards and future aspirations. The school is currently recruiting both year 10 and year 12 students to join them in September 2015.

Whilst all students will study traditional GCSEs or A Levels depending on the year in which they join, they will also gain highly respected Engineering/Renewables qualifications. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to work directly with well-known esteemed employer partners.

INDUSTRY LINKS

Humber UTC will work in close partnership with numerous respected employers in the surrounding areas. These will include BAE Systems, Tata Steel, Online Design, Able UK, Centrica, Clugstons, the RAF and SmartWind. The school is also pleased to be supported by North Lincolnshire Council.

The large collection of employer partners will provide real engineering projects for pupils to complete. This partnership with the employers provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable insight into roles they may wish to pursue in the future.

SKILLS GAP

Sonia Allen, Project Manager of the Humber UTC, said: “The nation as a whole presently has a large deficit of trained workers with the necessary scientific and mathematical skills needed to perform many roles. But mathematical and technical skills are progressively required in many industries.

“Humber UTC will therefore concentrate on the STEM credentials of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths which will provide the skills needed to take up numerous specialist roles in the future.”

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY

A unique point for Humber UTC is that students who are successful in their studies will earn a guaranteed interview with a partner employer. For those successful at A Level, a guaranteed conditional place at the University of Hull will also be offered.

Humber UTC recently announced its Principal Designate, Mr Andrew Downing, who will lead the School from September.
