SECTION SPONSOR COMPETENCE MANAGEMENT BESPOKE TRAINING COURSE
A new addition, to Offshore Marine Academy’s (OMA) offering of introductory, operational and technical courses, has been developed around the design of an innovative new subsea tool – the MDS3
. The bespoke ‘MDS3 Operator’ course has
been developed to ensure that users have an understanding of the various controls and mechanisms required to operate the control unit when offshore. Being able to effectively operate the tool is imperative to ensuring the end client benefits from cost and time savings which the tool has been designed to deliver during both construction and maintenance phases of offshore projects.
COLLABORATION
Designed by OMA’s sister company, Offshore Marine Management (OMM), collaboration for the training of the tool began early on in the development stages, ensuring both theoretical and practical knowledge contributed to the final course package.
MONITORING
The design and construction phases of the MDS3
throughout to create the MDS3
were closely monitored by OMA Operator
course - tailored to those who will operate and use it. OMA paid particular attention to its technical and operational specifications as well as its control system - installed to provide the high level of operational control and monitoring.
EXCITING PROJECT
Antony Lewis, Business Manager at OMA, said: “We have been hugely involved in this exciting project from the outset, especially throughout design and construction phases.
“The course will not only provide a comprehensive knowledge of the improved solution to cable protection but will mean that we only provide fully- trained professional operators to work on projects. This will guarantee maximum effectiveness as well as ensure that all operations with the MDS3
are carried out effectively and in a safe manner.”
TRAINING PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT
The company’s tutors worked alongside the engineers while both dry and wet tests were carried out to provide tutors with a wealth of information to apply to training programme development.
To be able to operate the MDS3 correctly,
all technicians must understand the operational procedures developed by OMM, which can be adapted to meet the specific needs of any future project undertaken.
MDS3
OPERATOR COURSE DETAIL It has been added to the academy’s operational course list and includes training in the control of hydraulics; the use and monitoring of three cameras and a sonar system, as well as system monitoring – to ensure the tool is stable.
The comprehensive training modules have been designed to provide a thorough understanding of the new tool, including the following areas…
• System background and method of operation
• Design features and key components • Technical specifications and operating parameters
• Health, safety and the environment • Control systems and software • Operational procedures and project requirements
The MDS3 Operator course runs for one
day from locations around the UK and at client offices (requires advanced booking).
Training concludes with a formal assessment to confirm correct learning and knowledge and ensure all delegates have the skills to effectively operate the MDS3
