SURVIVAL TRAINING OFFSHORE OPERATIONS

Fleetwood Offshore Survival Centre (FOSC) was developed within the long standing and well respected Nautical College at Fleetwood during the late 1980’s to offer survival training to the Merchant Navy and Offshore Oil & Gas industries.

RESPONDING TO DEMAND Due to increased demand for emergency response training in the Offshore oil & gas and Renewable Energy industries, FOSC opened a purpose built river launching facility with both Single and Twin Fall Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC). The Centre now has a fleet of five TEMPSCs (a mix of Twin and Single Fall), three Fast Rescue Crafts (a mix of Jet and Outboard Drives) and three support craft of varying sizes.

ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING FACILITY FOSC also designed, constructed and equipped an

environmental training facility on the Nautical Campus site. The centrepiece of this facility is the 18mx16mx4m tank with a wave machine

capable of producing a 1metre swell wave of various patterns. Additionally, darkness and rainfall can be created to provide extreme abandonment conditions.

A further major investment in the training tank in 2005 saw the installation of a state- of-the-art Helicopter Underwater Escape Trainer (HUET) to realistically train for a helicopter ditching.

DEDICATED FIRE TRAINING In August 2001, a dedicated fire training facility was opened. This facility is approximately one mile from the main campus and its introduction has dramatically reduced the travelling time for delegates attending offshore training courses.

A recent land purchase adjacent to the fire ground will allow the Centre to increase its footprint threefold due to continuing demand from the Renewable and Nuclear industries.

WORKING AT HEIGHT TRAINING TOWER The addition of a purpose built working at height training tower completes the Campus’ ability to deliver cost effective, high quality “one stop training” for the full Global Wind Organisation/RenewableUK set of courses.

HEALTH & SAFETY COURSES

Finally, due to industry demand, FOSC has been delivering a broad range of Health & Safety courses, including…

• Nebosh for the National general certificate and International oil & gas Technical Certificate in Operational Safety

• IOSH 1 day Working Safely • 4 day Managing Safely & Managing Safely for Renewables

• First Aid at Work 3 day initial and 2 day Refresher
