LIFTING & LOGISTICAL GOLIATHS!!!

“MIGHTY OAKS FROM LITTLE ACORNS GROW” Lao Tze Chinese philosopher

Seems a most apt truism – certainly when applied to the fascinating and illuminating journey that unfolds as I introduce to you, my next guest, Peter Robinson, Managing Director of MPI Offshore. As world leaders of Wind Turbine Installations and the operator of a fleet of four purpose built vessels, I learn more about the history, heritage and ambitions of this exceptional company!!

A NEW ERA

Having been with the company since 2001, the millennium not only heralded Peter joining the company but also the kick-starting of the wind energy industry. With headquarters in the picturesque and historical village of Stokesley, North Yorkshire (local to the birthplace of Captain Cook) there is a common thread to the eminent local explorer as MPI have paid homage by naming their extraordinary purpose-built vessels as a nod to him.

NOSTALGIA

It was whilst their revolutionary first vessel the MPI Resolution was introduced to the industry whereupon they ‘dipped their toe in the water’ – as it were, when working on the North Hoyle Wind farm. Peter recalls how it was a very different story then to how it is now… just witnessing all the ‘floating gadgets’ small boats in the water, almost a flotilla née armada of vessels together, to achieve the same result as MPI Resolution offered in a single vessel solution.

ACQUISITION

It was 2006 that marked a turning point for the company as Vroon, the International shipping company with a century of shipping experience and a heritage to be proud of acquired MPI. This partnership allowed MPI to not only gain gravitas to fulfil their innovative ambitions and achieve their custom-made combination of in- house services but to offer the very best in offshore construction performance by financing the build of the next generation vessels of Adventure and Discovery.

0 – 360 DEGREES

Since then they have worked on an enormous number of wind farm projects within some capacity having gained immeasurable experience and an enviable reputation for providing a one-stop-shop offering clients a complete service, from start to finish or as it is more commonly known as the company mantra: the project cycle 0 – 360°. Providing a whole portfolio of specialisms: from the workboats/ crew transfer vessels to specialist skilled personnel, to contractors as well as turnkey technical engineering solutions and project management.

THIRD GENERATION

With the ever-evolving development of the industry and the constant endeavour (no pun intended…) to be more cost effective Peter goes on to say that it is imperative to keep up to speed with all the technology within the sector and client requirements. Super-size!
