Keystone Expands Line of PCB Terminals
Astoria, NY — Keystone Electronics has introduced a new product line to its diverse selection of Quick-Fit PCB terminals. The new male tab termi- nals are specifically designed and packaged for use with vacuum pick- and-place equipment. The SMT ter- minals reduce assembly time by being mounted and processed in the same way as other SMT components. Their three-legged design increases the force necessary to deflect the ter- minal — keeping and maintaining the terminal perpendicular to the board during soldering and perma- nently afterward. Manufactured from brass with
a tin plate, the new Quick-Fit surface mount terminals are designed to ensure easy reflow soldering for reli- able solder joints. The terminals are supplied on
13 in. (33 cm) tape-and-reel packag- ing with high-temperature nylon pick pads for pick-and-place assem-
bly. Caps may be easily removed after the reflow soldering process.

Metcal: Hand Soldering Connection Validation
Cypress, CA — Connection validation is Metcal’s latest patented technolog- ical innovation. Built on the compa- ny’s SmartHeat™ technology, used in all Metcal soldering systems, connection validation evaluates the quality of the solder joint by calculating the intermetallic com- pound formation and provides closed-loop feedback to the opera- tor, mitigating risk in the process. The new high thermal
demand (HTD) soldering system, which consists of a handpiece and a selection of thermally efficient cartridges, is designed for use with the company’s MX line of power supplies. HTD maximizes thermal efficiency by delivering more energy to the solder joint in less time, enabling more solder joint formations and increasing line throughput. Metcal also offers its Scor -

pion rework and Scarab site-clean- ing systems. The Scorpion rework system is designed for precision and to address the technical demands of today’s component man- ufacturers. The company’s automatic placement package is capable of 50 mm (2 in.) of motorized travel in the z-axis and a full 360° in theta. The Scarab provides accurate and repeat- able cleaning of component pads in one non-contact, user-friendly sys- tem. It allows users to add site-clean-
