Page 29 Cicoil Intros Flexible Flat Power Cables

Valencia, CA — For power cord applications that re- quire resistance to kinking, fatigue and fraying, Ci- coil has developed a line of mechanically-tough and flexible cables. The Hi-Flex series cables are easy to handle and do not require bulky insulating materi- als and fillers, resulting in a more lightweight, flex- ible and tangle-free cable design. Unlike circular power cords that tend to kink

when used in confined areas, Cicoil’s flat cables are designed to handle tight bending, flexing, mechan- ical stress, and harsh environments. This makes them resistant to wire breakage, jacket punctures and operational failure. The cables are made from high-quality, oxygen-free copper wire and are heat-treated to provide maximum ductility, per- formance and to protect them from corrosion. The company’s computer-controlled extrusion

process allows individual power conductors to be placed in a flat, parallel profile, precise- ly controlling the spacing of each compo- nent, insulation thickness and overall cable shape. This ensures that each of the internal conductors do not rub against each other and wear during op- eration. The flat cables also have a greater surface-to-volume ratio than round ca- bles, which allows them to dissipate heat more efficiently. This offers a high-

EMS Intros Conductive Adhesives for Solar Modules

Delaware, OH — Engineered Materi- als Systems (EMS) has introduced its CA-150 series of snap-cure, low-cost conductive adhesives. The adhesives are designed to string and shingle crystalline silicon and heterojunction solar modules. The series was developed for

use in modified ribbon stringers. The material snap-cures at 150°C (302°F) and adheres to cells and ribbons in seconds. This provides the strength to withstand module manufacturing processes until the adhesive cure is complete during the encapsulation lamination process.

The conductive adhesives can

be dispensed by time-pressure, auger or jetting. Also, the adhesives are for- mulated to absorb more stress than solder to withstand the rigors of ther- mal cycling and processing at lower temperatures. In addition to conductive adhe-

sives for photovoltaics, EMS provides materials for semiconductor produc- tion, circuit assembly, printer head, camera module, disk drive, and pho- tonics assembly. The company also designs and develops custom materi-

als for specific applications. Contact: Engineered Materials

er current level for a given temperature rise and conductor cross-section.

The outer jacket is self-healing from small

punctures and will not wear, crack or deform due to longterm exposure to vibration, sunlight, tem- peratures of –65 to +165°C (–85 to +329°F), acid rain, fungus, alcohol, mechanical stress, humidity, ozone, UV light, and many chemicals. All conduc- tors equally share tensile loads, enhancing the cable’s strength. The clear jacket allows quick and safe cable inspection. Standard off-the-shelf cables are available for immediate delivery and cable as- semblies, complete with connectors, are offered in 3, 6 and 12 ft (0.9, 1.8 and 3.7m) lengths. The com- pany also offers custom hybrid designs and low-

friction coatings upon request. Contact: Cicoil, 24960 Avenue Tibbitts,
