Yamaha Consolidates Facilities in Hamamatsu, Japan
Iwata, Japan — Yamaha has complet- ed construction of a new facility in Hamamatsu, Japan, for its IM busi- ness unit. The IM business unit is re- sponsible for the development, manu- facturing and sales of surface mount platforms and industrial robots. The building has been under
construction since April 2015, with the goal of consolidating the IM busi- ness unit’s previous three offices and factories throughout Hamamatsu in- to a single facility. Many of Yamaha’s top execu-
tives and around 200 guests attended the opening ceremony, where a tradi- tional Shinto ritual was performed along with the ribbon-cutting.
The IM business unit is working
to leverage Yamaha Motors’ expertise in integrated development, manufac- turing and sales operations, and by expanding sales channels to include the automotive, home appliance, LED, mobile phone, and EMS fields. The company’s SMT surface
mount platforms, which are Yama- ha’s leading product in the electron- ics assembly industry, have extreme- ly fast mounting speeds as well as compatibility with a wide range of electronic components and PCBs. Through its “one-head solution” con- cept, the company has incorporated the best capabilities of three ma- chines into a single platform. Addi-
tional PCB assembly equipment, in- cluding solder paste printers, dis- pensers, and inspection systems are available, making Yamaha a suppli- er of a full lineup of production equipment for surface mount assem- bly. In North America, these prod- ucts are available through Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, in partner- ship with its North and South Amer-
ican distributor network. Contact: Yamaha Motor IM

Operations Begin at HELUKABEL’s Expanded Factory
Elgin, IL — Construction of the ex- tension to HELUKABEL’s produc- tion facility in Windsbach, Germany, has been completed successfully. The new building provides nearly 97,000 ft2 (9,012m2) of additional office, lab- oratory and production space. One of the project’s objectives
was to combine global R&D activities in one location. The newly-created en- gineering center houses additional test and inspection equipment, partic- ularly for moving applications as well as for extreme temperature climates. “New technologies for increas- ingly specific applications are chal-
lenging us to develop innovative ca- ble solutions,” stated Thomas Mann, Windsbach plant technical lead. “For example, the new engineering center is equipped with six drag chain test facilities that will allow us to check if our products are ready for series pro- duction and further their develop- ment in a realistic environment.” Along with the plant expansion, a
significant investment has been made in new production facilities. Their com- missioning as well as the restructuring of existing machines are part of a three-year plan. The objective is not only to increase production capacity,
but to optimize material handling. According to Thomas Pikkemaat,
Windsbach plant business manager and drive technology product manag- er, the company took the opportunity to improve communication between the various production areas. Shorter paths combined with new meeting zones will serve to enhance coordina- tion between these areas and enable
even leaner methods of working. Contact: HELUKABEL USA,
