This year’s Palm Expo Beijing found a new home just outside of the capital in the shape of the New China International Exhibition Centre (CIEC), situated near the international airport. Being only a year old, it offered dramatically improved services over the previous halls, though with the improvements came a number of fundamen- tal drawbacks.
China currently has a number of shows operating, the three main locations being Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Palm Beijing is the most established as well as being the show that attracts the most Western manufacturers exhibiting their wares to the Chinese marketplace. With this in mind, if you compared the exhibition halls where the show used to be held to the modern venues in Shanghai and Guangzhou

it really did need to improve the exhibition space and facilities if it was to continue its dominance. The move to the new venue certainly provided this with purpose built interconnected pillarless halls, and the all important easy connection to the airport. It was certainly apparent with the look and layout of the show being much improved. The show also recorded its highest size in take up of floor space being at 110,000 sqm, boasting an impressive 1,700 exhibiting companies from 35 countries spread over 10 halls, it also included an outside loudspeaker demo area and a compre- hensive set of seminars and the 10th China International Entertainment Technology Summit.
