PALME MIDDLE EAST DUBAI
Celebrating its 10th anniversary Palme Middle East, Dubai was as ever a show of contradictory exhibitor opinion. Since its inception the event has opened up the Middle East market to a swathe of companies and reaped the rewards in its take up of floor space, but suffered when both the global economic downturn hit, which had a particular impact on Dubai due to its high level of borrowing and also in the fact that the universe of buyers in the region is finite and the manufacturers who grew the event set up their deals and left it to their regional distributors to take up the floor space, which was rarely to the same level of a major manufacturer. This cycle of events has played out before, most noticeably in what was the PALA show in Singapore. Middle East for companies to be located for servicing the entertainment sector of the Middle East it seems logical that Palme ME has a future, albeit in a modified form. This year Palme ME was being headed by a new invigorated management team who were actively working to put the event firmly back on the global show schedule. The first area to be addressed was the database and Informa began integrating data from its other event databases into Palme ME, the plan being to expand the catchment area into Africa and other upcoming surrounding territories. Secondly the Middle East Event Show was amalgamated into the Palme ME show giving a one stop event industry exhibition. The cynical amongst you may say that the two events needed to be together to create the critical mass for an exhibition but it makes perfect sense to me as PALME needs to refocus itself as to its offer-
