The Outline system is powered by eight RAM Audio S-4000 ampli- fiers, which are compact and lightweight, are fully controllable via EtheRAM and are equipped with switchable ICL clip-limiters on each channel. Stefano said: “The RAM Audio S-Series amplifiers were chosen because of their great sound and moderate pricing.” Processing is taken care of by a Dolby Lake LP4D12 capable of running up to four 3-way crossovers. Stefano explained further: “The system is driven by a Dolby Lake LP4D12 processor. Its ‘game style’ graphical user interface with RTA integration is superior to anything else in the field. This provides optimum tuning possibilities and the ability to squeeze the maximum performance out of any system. If you pair this kind of system controller with great amplifiers and an Outline system you will achieve the best possible sonic performance available on the market.”

Mixing capabilities are taken care of by an Allen & Heath Xone:92 DJ console and a Pioneer DJM-900 DJ mixer. The Xone:92 desk features six dual stereo channels, two independent stereo mix outputs and two auxes for outputs to external FX units, while the DJ mixer from Pioneer includes a plug ‘n’ play functionality for quick and easy DJ switches, high quality fader technology and a 3-band equaliser. Stefano said: “The two DJ desks are usually paired with a Midas Venice console that is used for live performances and is connected to the second pair of analogue inputs from the Dolby Lake LPD412, which preserves the overall signal to noise ratio.” Upon completing the audio installation, Nordstern received some very positive feedback from well-known DJ Lucien Nicolet. He said: “Nor- dstern is my favourite club in Switzerland, because they care about everything from the smallest detail to the full essence of the club. The sound system is perfectly suited to my taste it’s clear and physi- cal. When I play at Nordstern I always experience a great connection with the crowd and the music.”

A new lighting system to accompany the new audio system was con- www.mondodr.com

figured and installed in house. Because Nordstern is regarded as an underground style club, the lighting inventory is minimal. The set-up comprises two SGM Idea Spot 300’s with linear zoom for a flexible light beam, a CMY colour mixing system and an interchangeable gobos and effects wheel to equip lighting designers with a number of options for different events and DJ performances. Two SGM Idea Beam 300’s produce a narrow highly concentrated light beam on the dancefloor, while two SGM Idea Scanner 250’s with eight preset programs and 48 programmable scenes make creating, saving and returning to lighting designs quick and easy. Four SGM Idea Strobos fitted high output 1,500W xenon lamps complete the line-up. With the new system now in place, Nordstern bills itself as: ‘A loca- tion that provides an interactive meeting place for creative people from different sectors, as well as a visionary living room for people with a sense for quality and in search for something extraordinary’.
