individually controlled so we can chase up and down the roof, when used in conjunction with the other effects like the video screens it’s a nice effect. We custom made these using LED mounted inside the barrisol supporting metal work. Of all the effects we worked on this one took quite a long time to get it just right. We must’ve looked at 10 different options before we all agreed on what was going to work. These are all triggered from the M1 lighting console.” Show Technology also supplied a GLUX MOTN 12mm LED screen for visual effects. It’s a semi-transparent screen made up of 1,000mm by 500mm panels. The panels feature hanging hinges and a vertical lining technique, which make them ideal for large backdrops. The total screen size is nine metres wide by 2.5 metres high. An additional 7.5 metre curved LED screen is also mounted on the front of the DJ booth. The panels’ thin style and angled edge structure made the curved assembling an easy task. The screens
“I have worked with the Q- Sys system on many other important installations and it has handled all these tasks with ease in every respect, so the decision to install the Q- Sys was a no brainer.”

are a huge focal point in the venue and were fairly easy to install. “For a special effect, the whole right hand side of the LED screen system can be moved mid-show via a hydraulic ramp system,” explained Matthew. “Basically the screen comprises three equal sections, the centre section slips perfectly behind the right section leaving a nice three metre gap in the centre of the screen. All this is done mechanically from a switch on the lighting desk. This means we can do ‘reveals’ or use ‘GoGo’ type dancers behind the DJ booth. We installed the MAC 101’s in that area to provide lighting support - it looks great when it’s in operation.” A coolux Pandoras Box Media Manager and Pandoras Box Media Player look after the video control. The Media Manager offers real- time show control. While the Media Player is the tool for creating the content, it has up to four video-layers and unlimited graphic-layers. Video layers can be pre-programmed, stored, and recalled when needed making this a user-friendly system. The video and lighting elements work together and produce an impressive show. To add a further visual element to the venue, a state-of-the-art laser system was designed for Marquee The Star. It was designed and installed by Oracle Laser, a Sydney-based crew of laser engineers, designers and all round spectacular FX junkies. The company has been supplying laser shows to the world’s biggest name performers for almost 20 years. Working closely with the production team at Marquee The Star, Oracle strategically placed laser systems around the venue to create an array of dazzling effects. “Every now and then you get a chance to show what lasers can really do,” said Darren Willmott, Oracle’s Production Manager. “The club was designed to make a statement, and we wanted the lasers to do so too. The experience had to be what you would expect at the top clubs in the world.” Not surprisingly, Oracle’s lasers are assembled from the finest optics in the world, outputting a full spectrum of brilliant colours. The lightweight, power efficient, air- cooled units can be rigged into some pretty tight spots, and each is individually controlled by Oracle’s software for finely tuned effects.
