Romans 10:9-18 Psalm 19:8-11 Matthew 4:18-22
Reflection
In the gospel of Matthew 4:18-22, Jesus calls his disciples to follow Him. They left their nets and boats without hesitation and went with Jesus. It seems remarkable that they so easily gave up their work without concern or annoyance at Jesus’ call. We should take much from this message: most likely, God’s call is not going to come at an opportune time and we must be ready to say “yes” when He calls us. Certainly, Mary is an exemplar of one who said “yes” to becoming the mother of God despite the shame, fear and turmoil that bearing a child out of wedlock would bring to herself and her family. Mary’s fiat resounds in our faith history because without her concurrence we would not have a Savior. We would not be saved. Her “yes” was courageous and strong as was the disciples.
Each of them said yes to the unknown,
the unspoken, the danger that accompanies such radical acts. Mary and the disciples had great faith in God, so they could not let themselves impede His will.
