Reflection
“In each place, at all times, and in every action consider God as present within you.” -Cornelia Connelly
The Season of Advent has always been my favorite liturgical season. For me, Advent is a time to reflect on the nearness of God in my life. The readings for Advent and the lighting of candles on the advent wreath are reminders of God’s presence and the gift of light that shattered the darkness of sin and confusion.
The readings for today speak of promises and signs. In Isaiah the Lord tells Ahaz to ask God for a sign. Don’t we all look for signs from God in our lives? We want a sign to help us know what to do in a given situation or a sign let us know we have made the right choice or
action. Sometimes we God ask for a sign but we decide what that sign should be. That is not how God works. We need to have open eyes and open hearts to see God’s signs, God’s presence in our lives. In this reading from Isaiah God promises a sign and the sign is a son to be born who will be named Emmanuel.
