12/7/80 Dear Sis,

Still think of you everytime I pick up a yellow pad, and believe me that is often. There are two things no one who has known me has ever accused me of: #1 being smart

#2 having possessed PATIENCE

and I am forced by my history to agree with them on both counts, especially the latter.

With this being the season of Advent and a time of waiting, my thoughts turn to many things: #1 THE YELLOW PADS REMIND ME OF YOU. #2 ADVENT REMINDS ME OF MY IMPATIENCE #3 BETWEEN THE TWO, I LOOK BACK AT HOW MUCH PATIENCE YOU HAVE EXHIBITED IN THE YEARS I HAVE KNOWN YOU, AND MAYBE WITH THESE THOUGHTS AND THE HELP OF THE LORD, I SHALL BE MORE PATIENT FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 72 HOURS. LOVE, MURPH

Prayer

As we think now of this season of waiting and patience, let us remember those who have been patient with us. Also bring to mind those whom we serve in our work and especially God's poor whose entire life is one of waiting (for money, for buses, for food, for good news). May the grace we seek be the grace given to Mary as she lived her life watching and waiting for her son, Jesus.
