The message of God’s abundant love is an overwhelming one. Sometimes we are not ready to hear the message. We are not ready to recognize the Lord. We need a messenger, a herald of the Good News.

God prepares us by sending “one before us to make ready our ways. “ John was the messenger who came to prepare the way of the Lord. We are reminded that John spoke in the wilderness which challenges us in our busy lives to listen in the quiet moments of our heart.

Who are today’s messengers that call us in the quiet of our hearts to see God in the poor, the hungry, and the needy we meet each day? Are we attentive enough to hear the message spoken in the wilderness?

Prayer

Lord, help us to recognize you and welcome you at every moment and in every person. Make ready our hearts as we wait in joy for your coming. Amen.
