bow to Him. When John the Baptist sends his disciples to Jesus to inquire whether he in fact is the One, Jesus answers not with an affirmation but rather with an inventory of His miraculous works. He alone provides us with the example of how to do the right thing and how to follow in God’s way.

Many Christian believe in this obvious tenet of our faith, that all things come from God and that He alone is the pinnacle of our life. Yet, Pope Benedict XVI on his recent trip to England warns about The Dictatorship of Relativism. In the world’s current cultural climate, people are sometimes not so subtly convinced that there is no one good way to live life; that people’s beliefs and egos define the “ultimate goals of society”. How often do we see this around us?

Do we define societal righteousness or does God still hold court? Is it the latest “ism” that convinces us the politically correct way is the true path or is it God’s clear, direct and loving example and commandments?

Prayer

In this advent season, let us guard against spiritual relativism. Help us to refocus our mind and soul on God’s law and not the latest social conventions. Support us in our quest to define righteousness not as we deem just and correct but as You proclaim. You are our Savior and it is only through you that we will gain the graces to join you in heaven. Give us the strength to implement true righteousness We ask this through you our Lord, Amen
