Reflection on the Gospel Reading Announcement of the Birth of Jesus
From the moment that I learned I was going to have my first child, through the months of waiting for the baby to arrive I experienced so many powerful feelings. Joy is the first. I always knew I wanted to be a mother, and I could feel the love I would share with my child from the moment the doctor confirmed I was pregnant. You think nothing can surpass the wonderful feeling at that moment, but then in a few months you feel the flutter of life! And it hits you, this life inside you is truly a gift from God. He is entrusting you with the life of another human being!
This realization triggered many questions on motherhood abilities. Will I be a good mother? Will I be patient and understanding? Will I be able to teach him/her right from wrong, balancing love and discipline? Will I be protective, but not overly so? Did Mary have these same questions and what other questions did she have?
