challenges. They are trying to master the language and acquire the skills necessary to maintain employment or go to school in this country. Some suffer violence and indignities at the hand of others who are made desperate by poverty and addiction. Fear of government and public systems based on experiences in less democratic societies creates a climate of exclusion.
Our charge is to create a safe place in the midst of the fray, to welcome people out of the dark and to declare the Lord’s love through practical expressions of faith. In English classes and prayer meetings, homework help and sewing instruction, we communicate that God is present, attentive, and actively gathering the lambs.
Prayer
Lord, may we embrace the call to proclaim the good tidings of salvation, especially to the lost and vulnerable. May Your goodness be known throughout our cities and neighborhoods.
