Case study Front of house
Who Jessica Clark What Projects manager Where Lusso, a division of CH&Co Group
www.chandco.net
Where did it all begin? I joined CH&Co Group in 2011 for a year-long graduate work-placement while studying for my BA Hons Hospitality Management degree at Bournemouth University. I spent time working within the company’s Ampersand division and with the head office team before joining Lusso for my final six months. Working across the group gave me a wealth of experience, as did working in locations such as Buckingham Palace and various City law firms. As a result, I managed to determine where my passion lay within the industry and rejoined Lusso on completion of my degree.
Tell us about your role I’ve been working on some exciting contract mobilisations of City clients, such as Xchanging and Mitsui OSK Lines. At the moment, we’re in the process of overseeing the moves of Mishcon de Reya and Estée Lauder to two stunning new venues. I have also been involved in internal projects, following the
recent merger that formed CH&Co Group. It’s a really exciting time, with lots going on.
You’ve progressed fast. Is that common in this sector? It’s no secret that the hospitality industry is a hard-working one that takes a lot of dedication, but you definitely get out of it what you put in. I was fortunate enough to find myself in a growing company that provided lots of opportunities for development.
Brain wave
If you need to get some experience under your belt, or if you are studying, foodservice companies in the leisure sector are always looking for casual workers. Try to get a weekend job serving food at a stadium, or maybe a holiday job at one of the UK’s many tourist attractions. You’ll get bags of experience that will make your CV sparkle.
What’s next? I’d like to work up into a senior operations role, which I can see myself achieving in the future if I continue to work hard.
Jessica’s top tip on getting ahead fast “The hospitality industry is so fast-paced that you’ve got to seize every opportunity and not be afraid to just go for it. In the end, you’ll start to see the rewards”
